The environmental initiatives is the need of the hour as, the environment is facing unprecedented threats from human activities, endangering ecosystems, health, and the planet’s future. Addressing these challenges requires collective effort, with students playing a pivotal role in driving sustainable change. At City Montessori School (CMS), Gomti Nagar Extension, students, in partnership with their parents, have undertaken various impactful initiatives to promote environmental conservation.
Students and Parents’ Environmental Contributions
Since 2014, our students have been at the forefront of environmental advocacy. Through organized parades, park visits, and awareness campaigns, they have actively educated the community about critical environmental concerns. They also participate in prestigious programs such as Wipro Earthian and Tide Turner, which focus on themes like water conservation and waste management.
Parents are integral to these efforts, working alongside students in activities such as cleaning drives and community awareness programs. This collaboration reinforces the importance of collective responsibility in environmental conservation, amplifying the impact of CMS’s initiatives.
Sustainable Practices and Facilities
CMS promotes sustainability through innovative practices and eco-friendly facilities:
Composting and Recycling: Students and parents actively engage in composting and paper recycling projects.
Educational Visits: Environment clubs organize trips to places like Janeshwar Mishra Park and Amul, where students learn about sustainable practices such as plastic recycling.
Special Projects: Guided by Wipro Earthian, the school focused on water management in 2023 and transitioned to waste management in 2024.
As part of our sustainability and environment initiatives we have a dedicated environmental awareness wall on the third floor, with plans to create additional plant-decorated spaces. CMS maintains a thriving garden where herbs are grown, and students plant a new tree every month. Parents frequently assist in maintaining this garden, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared responsibility.
Cleaning Drives and Awareness Programs
Students, equipped with proper cleaning gear, conduct cleaning drives both on campus and in surrounding areas, supported by their parents. The school also organizes special assemblies to instill environmental values and celebrate sustainability achievements and motivate students to take part in various environmental initiatives.
Achievements and Innovations
Under the guidance of Kavita Shahi Ma’am, CMS students have achieved remarkable milestones:
Awards: They have received multiple accolades in the Wipro Earthian program. Prize money from these achievements funded the purchase of a paper grinding machine, enhancing recycling efforts.
Innovative Projects: Students and parents creatively crafted paper bricks, showcasing their commitment to sustainability.
International Environment Olympiad
Every two years, CMS hosts the International Environment Olympiad, inviting participants from schools and colleges worldwide to compete in events centered on environmental conservation. Esteemed dignitaries share their insights during the event, inspiring participants to contribute actively to sustainability.
Leadership and Dedication
CMS empowers students by appointing environment prefects to lead eco-friendly initiatives. This leadership, combined with active parental involvement, underscores the power of collaboration in achieving meaningful environmental impact. Together, they have positioned CMS as a leader in environmental responsibility and innovation.
