AI can Transform Classrooms when guided by Evidence and Ethics

Artificial Intelligence, when integrated thoughtfully and backed by evidence, can become a powerful enabler of holistic student development, said Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, Manager of City Montessori School, while speaking at a panel discussion at the AI for Learning Forum, India, in New Delhi in January 2026.

Speaking at the national forum organised under the India AI Impact Summit–2026 by Google India at The Leela Palace, New Delhi, Prof. Kingdon underlined that AI has the potential not only to strengthen academic outcomes but also to nurture global outlooks, creativity and critical thinking among students.

Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Minister of State for Education (MoE), Government of India, was the chief guest at the event. Policymakers, senior educationists, technology leaders and teachers participated in in-depth deliberations on leveraging emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning at scale. Senior officials from Google, DeepMind and Fab AI, representatives of the Ministry of Education, leading educational institutions, non-profit organisations and members of the media were present.

City Montessori School was represented at the forum under the leadership of Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, along with Ms Sushama Rajkumar, Dean, Cambridge Section, CMS, and Mr Abhishek Sharma, Mathematics Educator, CMS Rajajipuram Campus I.

Speaking on the theme Beyond Adoption: An Evidence-Based Approach towards Gemini for Teaching and Learning, Prof. Kingdon highlighted CMS’s long-standing commitment to innovation rooted in research and classroom realities. She shared findings from a randomised controlled study conducted by Google DeepMind in collaboration with Fab AI at CMS that examined the impact of AI tutors (Google’s Gemini Guided Learning) on student learning outcomes, presenting it as a model for how rigorous evidence should guide decisions on adoption and scale.

During the panel discussion, she elaborated on the responsible integration of emerging technologies in education, emphasising teacher empowerment, personalised learning, ethical safeguards and preparedness as non-negotiable pillars of AI implementation in classrooms.
