Environment Executive

Role Overview

The Environment Executive will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing environmental sustainability initiatives across CMS campuses and offices. The role encompasses environmental audits, statutory and regulatory compliance, resource efficiency initiatives, environmental reporting, and awareness building within a school-based ecosystem. The position requires close coordination with Principals, administrative teams, housekeeping staff, and central departments to ensure CMS’s environmental commitments are implemented in a structured, measurable, and consistent manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and monitor multiple environmental and sustainability initiatives across CMS schools and offices, ensuring clearly defined action plans, timelines, and measurable outcomes. · Conduct and coordinate environmental audits, including assessments of:
  • Energy and electricity consumption
  • Water usage and rainwater harvesting systems
  • Solid waste, e-waste, and hazardous waste management
  • Air conditioning systems, DG set usage, and transport practices
  • Green cover, plantation activities, and biodiversity initiatives
  • Develop and maintain campus-level environmental baseline data, performance indicators, tracking systems, and periodic review mechanisms to support continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, statutory requirements, and best practices relevant to educational institutions, and guide campuses on corrective and preventive actions where required.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving environmental regulations, sustainability guidelines, and school-relevant standards, translating them into practical and implementable frameworks for CMS campuses.
  • Support the preparation and periodic review of environmental policies, SOPs, internal circulars, reports, and presentations for management review and institutional communication.
  • Facilitate the preparation of environment-related proposals, concept notes, project reports, and documentation for internal approvals and external collaborations (e.g., solar energy projects, water conservation initiatives, afforestation programmes).
  • Act as a nodal coordinator between CMS campuses, the Head Office, and external agencies, vendors, and consultants for environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating capacity-building programmes, awareness drives, student engagement activities, and staff sensitization sessions related to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to Campus Environment Coordinators and other relevant stakeholders, including the development of checklists, training modules, and standard formats.
  • Mentor and guide school-level coordinators, administrative staff, and housekeeping teams by offering constructive feedback and implementation support to strengthen on-ground environmental practices.
  • Maintain systematic documentation and records to support internal audits, inspections, statutory reporting requirements, and future planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Botany, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree or Postgraduate qualification in Environmental Management, Sustainability Management, Engineering, or a relevant field is preferred.

Preferred Competencies and Certifications

  • Strong understanding of environmental audits, compliance requirements, and sustainability practices in institutional or campus-based environments.
  • Ability to translate technical environmental requirements into clear, actionable guidance suitable for school operations.
  • Strong coordination, documentation, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with school operations, facilities management, and administrative systems will be an advantage.
  • B.Ed qualification or prior experience as a Science Teacher for a minimum of two years will be an added advantage.
  • Certifications such as ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), LEED, or equivalent sustainability-related certifications are desirable.

  • Reports To: Head, World Unity Education Department (WUED)
  • Reporting Location: CMS Head Office
  • Working Days: Monday to Saturday
  • Working Hours: 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM
