MechaTurf League

ROBO SOCCER (SENIOR LEVEL)

Imagine a futuristic soccer field where robots do not just play the game-they think the game. They calculate, predict, and make split-second decisions with the precision of a math equation. In the world of robotic soccer, mathematics is the silent coach guiding every pass, every dribble, and every goal. At the heart of it all, mathematics fuels the logic behind the robots’ movements, vision systems, and decision-making processes. Geometry helps the robots calculate angles to intercept the ball, while calculus comes into play for smooth, real-time adjustments to their speed and trajectory.

Algorithms are used to analyse the field, predict opponents’ actions, and make tactical decisions, almost as if the robots are “thinking” ahead. Thus, our Competition, entitled MechaTurf League (Robo Soccer), is an exciting fusion of physical play and mathematical reasoning, where the rules of math are not just abstract theories- they’re the game plan, ensuring every movement is purposeful and calculated. Through the lens of robotics, mathematics becomes the universal language that transforms raw action into a thrilling spectacle.

RULES:

  1. Arena Specifications:
The arena will be a rectangular field of 180 cm x 120 cm.
Goals will be 30 cm wide at each end.
The ball will be of standard ping pong ball size.
  2. Robot Specifications:
    The Maximum dimensions are 30 cm x 25 cm x 20 cm.
The maximum weight allowed is 2 kg.
Both manual and autonomous control mechanisms are permitted.
Power supply should not exceed 12V.
  3. Match Rules:
3 Participants from the Senior Level will represent each school.
Each match will last for 5 minutes (2 halves of 2.5 minutes each).
Teams consist of 2 robots each.
Only one robot from each team is allowed as a goalkeeper.
Robots should not hold or trap the ball; only pushing or deflecting is allowed.
Physical damage to the opponent’s robot is not permitted.
  4. Scoring System:
A goal is considered valid if the ball fully crosses the goal line.
Own goals will be counted for the opposing team.
  5. Disqualification Criteria:
Deliberate blocking or damaging opponent robots.
Holding the ball for more than 5 seconds.
    Unsportsmanlike behaviour during the match.
