Dr Rabbi Ezekiel Isaac Malekar of the Bene Israel community leads Delhi’s historic Judah Hyam Synagogue, which is North India’s sole Jewish place of worship. For more than thirty years, he has voluntarily led synagogue services while fostering interreligious harmony, founding the Inter-Faith Study Centre and a public library to foster profound spiritual unity. A pioneer in social reform, he introduced gender-inclusive synagogue practices and embraced interfaith marriages without conversion.

A qualified lawyer with an LL.B. and postgraduate diploma in Labour Law, he served for 15 years as Deputy Registrar (Law) at India’s National Human Rights Commission. An accomplished author of The Lord Is One and Prudence in Prism, Rabbi Malekar has received prestigious honours, including the Mahavir-Mahatma Award, Ambassador of Peace Award, Martin Luther Award, and Vishva Shanti Padam for his enduring commitment to Jewish heritage, peace, and social justice.
