Cambridge Assessments
Preparing your child for the future
Cambridge Checkpoint Exams
Cambridge Checkpoint exams offer our students a valuable opportunity to benchmark their academic progress against international standards. These assessments, administered by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), cover key subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science at the end of primary and lower secondary school. The results provide detailed insights into each student’s strengths and areas where they can grow, empowering our teachers to personalise learning and ensure every child reaches their full potential.
Checkpoint also serves as excellent preparation for future academic pursuits, including IGCSE and A-Level examinations, equipping our students with the confidence and skills they need to succeed. These exams demonstrate our commitment to providing a world-class education and preparing our students for global success.
Cambridge Upper Secondary Assessments
The Cambridge Upper Secondary curriculum is designed for scholars aged 14 to 16 and offers two globally benchmarked qualifications: Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O Level. Both assessment pathways are equivalent to Grade X in India and are recognised by all major Indian education boards, including CBSE, ICSE, and various state boards. These qualifications are widely accepted by leading schools, colleges, and universities across the world.
Cambridge IGCSE Examination
- Subjects often offer a choice between ‘Core’ and ‘Extended’ levels, catering to a broad range of academic abilities.
- IGCSE grades are awarded on a scale from A* to G and are supported by clear descriptors that define the level of achievement.
- Examinations are conducted twice a year, in June and November, with results published in August and January.
Cambridge O Level Examination
The Cambridge Advanced qualification is tailored for students aged 16 to 19 who aspire to pursue higher education, both in India and abroad. It offers two internationally recognised qualifications: the Cambridge International AS Level and the Cambridge International A Level.
Together, these provide an academically rigorous foundation for university entrance exams, particularly in countries like the UK, USA, Australia, and across Europe and Asia. In India, Cambridge A Levels are considered equivalent to Grade XII Board Examinations conducted by CBSE, ICSE, and various state boards.
Cambridge Advanced Assessments
- Assessment is conducted at the end of the course and includes written, oral, and practical examinations, allowing learners to express their learning in diverse ways.
- Grading follows a six-point scale from A* to E, with well-defined performance standards.
- The O Level examination series also runs in June and November, with results released in August and January.
Cambridge AS Level and A Level Examinations
Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year programme, while Cambridge International AS Level is designed to be completed in one year. Both qualifications allow learners to explore subjects in depth, promoting independent thinking, analytical skills, and academic discipline. Cambridge AS & A Level examinations are held twice a year, in June and November, with results released in August and January.
Assessment Pathways
Learners may choose from several assessment routes to suit their academic goals and timelines:
- AS Level only – It represents the first half of an A Level exam and is ideal for learners who wish to gain a stand alone qualification.
- Staged route – Following this pathway, learners may take the AS Level in one examination session and complete the A Level in a later session. AS results can be carried forward for up to 13 months, depending on the subject.
- Full A Level – Students may follow this pathway to take all the papers in a single examination session, typically at the end of the two-year course.
Grading and Recognition
Many schools use AS Level results to provide early feedback to learners, helping them identify strengths and areas for growth before progressing to the full A Level.
Upholding Academic Integrity
Cambridge International, through CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Education), adopts a distinctive and transparent approach to grading. It awards grades without adjustment or modification, ensuring a rigorous and fair assessment process. Under this system, qualified subject experts evaluate each answer sheet or ‘script’, and senior Cambridge examiners review them to ensure consistency, fairness, and objectivity.
Each year, experts set ‘grade boundaries’ or the minimum marks required to secure a grade and review them based on insights and global performance data. This process ensures that the Cambridge grading system remains unbiased and accurately reflects students’ skills and subject mastery.
Later, students who appear for the Cambridge exams can access and reflect on their marked scripts. This initiative fosters learning from mistakes, deepens academic insight, and encourages personal accountability as well as a growth mindset.
