Research at California University has demonstrated that children who engage in music education develop a greater capacity for absorbing knowledge and achieve better learning outcomes across academics, co-curricular activities, and sports. In line with this, City Montessori School (CMS) places a strong emphasis on music and dance education, employing a team of 55 music teachers and 35 dance teachers across all its campuses. Our dedicated educators provide high-quality training in classical music and various dance forms, ensuring that our students receive a well-rounded cultural education.
Comprehensive Music and Dance Education
At CMS, students receive individualized and group lessons in musical instruments such as the violin, guitar, and synthesizer. Our dance curriculum encompasses classical styles like Kathak and Bharatanatyam, folk dances, and various genres of Western dance. This diverse training fosters a deep appreciation for the arts and equips students with skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Achievements in Music Examinations
Since 2006, CMS has been training students for the Music Exams conducted by the Trinity College of Music, London. Our commitment to excellence was further recognized in 2007 when CMS became an official examination center for the Trinity College of Music. Our students have consistently excelled, with notable achievements including:
- Sagar Gandhi, who topped North India in Grade 2 for Electronic Keyboard.
- Amaan Khan, who successfully passed Grade IV in Guitar.
- Avnisha Verma, who achieved Grade I in Guitar.
In 2012, our music teacher, Mr. Pankaj Srivastava, was honored with a “Certificate of Excellence” in music teaching from the Trinity College of Music, London.
Introducing Western Music Excellence
This year, CMS has introduced individual violin and voice lessons in Western Music at six campuses. Our students are being mentored by renowned musicians Mr. Shamim Movahhed and Mrs. Jinous Vegan from Tbilisi, Georgia. Mr. Movahhed, a composer, orchestra director, and violinist, and Mrs. Vegan, a professional vocalist and opera singer, bring a wealth of expertise to our music program.
Preparing for International Music Exams
Currently, 25 of our young violinists are being trained to take the Music Exam in November, conducted by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). In addition to instrumental training, Mr. Movahhed is providing instruction in “Staff Notation” (reading Western music scripts) to 27 of our music teachers, enhancing their teaching capabilities.
Expanding Musical Horizons
Beyond violin and voice lessons, CMS has introduced tabla classes at our Gomti Nagar I and Aliganj I campuses. Under the expert guidance of Mr. Movahhed and Mrs. Vegan, our students have delivered four highly successful performances in Lucknow during the 2018-2019 academic year, earning widespread acclaim.
At CMS, we believe that a strong foundation in music and dance not only enriches our students’ educational experience but also nurtures their creativity and confidence. Through our comprehensive programs and dedicated mentorship, we continue to inspire and cultivate the next generation of musicians and dancers.
