International Literacy and Cultural Fest ‘Eureka’

The Greek mathematician Archimedes shouted 'Eureka, Eureka'! (I have found it) when he discovered the principle of measuring the density of water, now known as the Archimedes' Pinciple. Taking the clue, CMS Anand Nagar organises this interesting contest of talent for primary and junior classes covering a wide range of subjects like essay writing, debate, speech, music, dance, painting, collage etc. Talents flow out freely and the judges have a hard time deciding the winners. Ms Reena Soti, the enthusiastic Principal of CMS Anand Nagar Campus goes all out to organize this event with her staff and students. Children from far and near compete for medals and showcase their abilities. Parents also enjoy this feast of literary, dramatic, poetic and musical talent. The next Eureka is scheduled for 25 to 28 November 2018.

The International School-to-School Experience (ISSE) is a unique international programme for schools that provides for the exchange of thoughts and ideas through face-to-face contest with children from countries around the world. It is non-profit, non political and non-religious by nature. The programme gives 10 - 12 year old school children the opportunity to experience and understand other culture on a personal level. It is an innovative approach for schools realizing the importance of international experience in modern school education. CMS students have visited Australia, Malaysia, China, Mexico, Japan, USA and other countries under this 3 week exchange programme. Similarly, students of these countries have come to India and attended classes here with CMS children and gained valuable insight into the traditions and cultures of the host country realizing that the earth is but one huge family characterized by unity in diversity.

Profiles of CMS alumni selected in Provincial Civil Services - Judicial PCS (J)

Swarangi Shukla
Former student of CMS Kanpur Road Campus
Selected in UP PCS (J) Rank 1

Swarangi Shukla is one of the brightest stars of CMS who has made it to the top rank in the PCS (J) selections by dint of hard work and consistent planning and effort in her career.

She joined CMS Kanpur Road Campus in 1996 in Nursery Class. She studied here till Class IX and then due to change of residence, she shifted to CMS Gomti Nagar Campus I from where she completed her ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII).

Swarangi’s father is an IPS Officer, posted as Superintendant of Police, Special Investigation Team, Lucknow. Her mother is a homemaker. Her fascination towards law grew as she realised its dynamic nature, vast scope of application and ability to empower people. Consequently she decided to pursue her graduation in law. After Class XII, she appeared for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and secured a seat in Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar. Her five years at law school were highly enriching. She won laurels in Moot Court Competitions, published papers in different journals and interned at diverse places. At the end of five years she received 4 gold medals for her academic performance. During her fifth year she decided to appear in judicial examination after my graduation.

In her message for the younger students, she says, “I would encourage the students to avail the brilliant opportunities offered by CMS in form of World Parliament, Chief Justice Conferences and competitions.”

Sonakshi Verma
Selected in Bihar PCS (J); Former student of CMS Aliganj Campus I
Topper Amongst Girls

Sonakshi Verma, the bright-eyed girl from CMS Aliganj Campus I made it to the top by dint of hard labour and enterprise, her single-minded devotion towards studies and powerful concentration leading her to become the topper among all the girls in Bihar PCS (J) Examination.

Sonakshi has always been a meritorious student fetching high scores in the ISC and ICSE Board Examinations. She secured 80.2% marks in ICSE and 85% in ISC Board Exams. Choosing law as a career, she joined a five year course at Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University and earned her LL.B degree. Continuing to wade through the stream of law, she completed her LLM from the University of Lucknow in 2014 securing a gold medal in constitutional and administrative law.

The emotional support of both parents especially her mother Reena Verma was crucial for her success.

In her very first attempt, she was selected in the Bihar Judicial Services.

The key to success, she says, is understanding the concepts. “Concept clarity needs prime attention and rote learning least attention. One should read the text and understand the text’s concept. “Besides qualifying for the PCS(J) Examination, she also qualified UGC Net.

We wish her a long and successful innings in her judicial career.
