From the President's Pen...

Prof. Geeta Kingdon
President, CMS
Dear Parents,

School re-started with gusto in July as students and teachers came back refreshed after the long summer break. The post-holiday session started with most teachers getting 6-8 days of professional development (training) in how to improve class-room pedagogy, to promote learning with understanding. From training in hands-on-maths and Fitzroy phonics, to the formation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and training in moral empowerment approaches, all testified to the growing professionalism of CMS teachers.

The euphoria of Board Exam successes over the summer has boosted confidence, jacked up ambitions, steeled the resolve, and buoyed academic momentum. But, as ever, academic work was accompanied with exciting extra-curricular activities – from weekly hobby clubs, observance of environmental days (Van Mahotsav week in early July and ground-water week in late July), and student and staff educational trips to China, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy and Canada.

Major sporting successes in July included a large number of golds and silvers in basketball, karate, football, skating, swimming yoga and ASISC Zonal Football Tournament with CMS Aliganj winning the football tournament for the 5th year running! CMS Station Road Campus students won first prizes in ASISC Inter-School Quiz Contest (see inside for more details). The robotics team of CMS Gomti Nagar 1 campus returned triumphant from the international robotics competition at the University of Waterloo, Canada, with the Judges’ Discretionary Prize of $500 for its model of a self-driving car.

Reflecting the growing interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics mania has swept across CMS, with the establishment in July of two new robotics labs in CMS Rajajipuram 1 and Gomti Nagar Extension campuses.

80 CMS students bagged the Government of India’s National Science Scholarship of Rs. 4 lakh each (Rs. 80,000 per year for 5 years) for being in the top 1 percent of performers nationally in the 2018 ISC board exam. This made a total scholarship amount of Rs. 3.2 crores – a feat worthy of celebration!
