ISCL 2025: A Global Showcase of Youth Cricket, Culture, Camaraderie, and Shared Harmony

When cricket becomes more than a game—when it evolves into a classroom without walls, a bridge between cultures, and a lesson in character—the result is something truly extraordinary. The International School Cricket League (ISCL) 2025, organised by City Montessori School (CMS), Kanpur Road Campus, embodied this belief in both spirit and action. The seven-day global cricket carnival, held from 13th to 19th December 2025, redefined the landscape of school sports by blending the classic T20 format with a profound message of global harmony. Sixteen school teams from India, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Nepal competed with passion, discipline, and mutual respect across 31 high-spirited matches, reflecting exemplary sportsmanship while embracing the deeper values of education through sport.

Beyond Competition, Towards Character

While most school tournaments focus solely on the scoreboard, the International School Cricket League was envisioned with a deeper purpose. It was conceived as a platform for holistic development designed to nurture the leaders of tomorrow.

The Core Objectives of ISCL 2025

  • To provide international exposure to budding school cricketers by replicating global T20 standards in format, rules, and match conduct
  • To promote sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork, reinforcing values that transcend national boundaries
  • To encourage cultural exchange and global friendship, using sport as a unifying language
  • To instil values like confidence and resilience in young players by placing them in competitive, high-pressure match situations
  • To integrate education with physical excellence, reinforcing CMS’s belief in balanced, value-based education

As CMS Manager Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon stated in her inaugural speech, ISCL was envisioned as a ‘sports festival with a soul’ in an effort to shape responsible global citizens through the spirit of the game.

A Tournament Designed to Global Standards

With knockout stages, day–night encounters, and matches spread across multiple venues, ISCL 2025 offered young players an authentic experience synonymous with international sporting events. Matches were hosted at:

  • CMS Kanpur Road Stadium
  • Parth Ground
  • Sports Galaxy Ground – B

The 16 teams were divided into four competitive pools, ensuring diversity, balance, and thrilling encounters from the very first match—beginning with the host team, CMS Stallions, facing Overberg Eagles (South Africa).

A Grand Opening with a Message That Resonated

The league was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr Rudra Pratap (R. P.) Singh, a renowned international cricketer and member of the BCCI Selection Committee from Uttar Pradesh. He formally opened the tournament with a ceremonial lamp-lighting ceremony. Applauding CMS for organising a tournament of such scale and significance for young players, he shared a simple yet profound message with the audience: ‘Play hard, but play fair.’

The grand opening ceremony reflected the ethos of City Montessori School: a vibrant blend of culture, music, and global harmony.

Beyond the excitement of the matches, the vibrant cultural programme curated by the students of CMS Kanpur Road added depth and emotional resonance to ISCL 2025. The opening ceremony unfolded as a graceful confluence of melody, movement, and meaning—featuring soulful songs, a musical rendition by the School Band, and resplendent folk dances that paid homage to India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. Interwoven with these performances were the World Peace Prayer and All-Religion Prayers, gentle yet powerful reminders of the universal values of peace, harmony, and unity that define the CMS ethos.

Thoughtfully choreographed yoga & sports drills and global dance presentations, each representing different values, cultures and traditions, added a truly international appeal to the event. Together, these performances conveyed a timeless truth: when sport and culture walk hand in hand, they create connections that transcend language, nationality, and geography. For those moments, the arena became more than a sporting venue; it transformed into a shared space of expression, understanding, and collective joy.

This seamless integration of athletic excellence with cultural expression reflects CMS Kanpur Road’s steadfast commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals. The ISCL 2025 inauguration thus stood as a living example of this philosophy in action—where intellect, creativity, and values converge to shape confident learners, compassionate individuals, and responsible global citizens.

The grand opening ceremony reflected the ethos of City Montessori School: a vibrant blend of culture, music, and global harmony. Students presented performances celebrating Indian heritage and world unity. Young players from different nations standing together, singing songs of peace, sent a powerful message: sports need not divide; they can unite.

Cricketing Excellence Across Seven Thrilling Days

The crack of the wood against the leather ball, the roar of an enthusiastic crowd, and the spirit of camaraderie under the floodlights—the ISCL was all this and much more. Over the course of seven days, the league witnessed:

  • Explosive batting performances, including multiple high-scoring T20 totals
  • Match-winning spells of disciplined bowling, showcasing tactical maturity well beyond age
  • Nail-biting finishes, from narrow run chases to dramatic collapses under pressure
  • Emerging stars who rose to the occasion with centuries, five-wicket hauls, and decisive all-round performances

The Group Stage Thrills

  • The Centurions: Ronit of DEV Smashers (Bihar) left spectators mesmerised with a blistering 106 off just 38 balls.
  • The Bowling Titans: Kartikeya Varshney (Aster Noida) delivered a masterclass in spin/seam, taking 5 wickets at the expense of just 13 runs.
  • International Flair: The Australian JOEYS showcased the “Aussie way” of cricket, posting a mammoth 237 runs against Gujarat, led by Nick Patel’s explosive 52.

From commanding international teams to resilient Indian school sides, every match added a new chapter to the league’s growing legacy.

The Knockout Intensity

As the tournament progressed to the quarter- and semi-finals, the pressure mounted. Global Mighty (Nepal) emerged as a formidable force, reaching the semi-finals through disciplined bowling by Adarsh Bhandari. However, it was the clever strategy and precision of the Bal Bhavan Lions (Delhi) that began to dominate the narrative.

The Grand Finale: A Battle of Nerves

The final match of ISCL 2025 saw Aster Knights (Noida) face off against Bal Bhavan Lions (Delhi). Noida started with a flourish, looking set for a total well beyond 200. However, the unpredictability of T-20 cricket surfaced when Delhi’s bowlers staged a miraculous comeback, taking 9 wickets for just 50 runs in the death overs.

Chasing a target of 158, the Bal Bhavan Lions exhibited “ice-in-the-veins” temperament, reaching 162 in 18.4 overs. With disciplined bowling and confident chasing, Bal Bhavan Lions emerged as the ISCL 2025 Champions, lifting the coveted trophy amid thunderous applause.

The championship trophy was presented by Indian cricket sensation Rinku Singh (occasional off-spin bowler and left-handed batsman for Kolkata Knight Riders – IPL and the Indian Men’s Cricket Team), whose presence inspired every aspiring cricketer on the field. He encouraged young players to carry forward the values learnt on the field into every aspect of life.

As trophies were distributed and smiles exchanged, one truth became evident: while one team lifted the cup, every participant walked away richer in experience.

ISCL: A Legacy in the Making

ISCL 2025 succeeded in doing what it set out to achieve:

  • It created an authentic international sporting environment for school students
  • It fostered friendships across borders, breaking barriers of language and geography
  • It reinforced sportsmanship as a life value, not just a match-day expectation
  • It empowered young athletes with confidence, exposure, and aspiration

As the lights dimmed on the 7th International School Cricket League 2025, what remained was not just a record of scores and statistics but a legacy of unity, growth, and global citizenship. For the young cricketers who participated, ISCL was not the end of a tournament; it was the beginning of a journey shaped by discipline, courage, camaraderie, and character.

And for CMS, ISCL 2025 reaffirmed a simple yet powerful truth: “When children are given the right platform, the world becomes their playground—and their future, limitless.”
