Honourable Dr Mathew George serves as Director of the Arms Transfers Programme at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), a role he has held since May 2023. A leading expert in global arms trade and defence analysis, his work encompasses military inventories across the Americas and Oceania, coastal and comprehensive security, and international arms transfer patterns.

Before joining SIPRI, Dr George served as Practice Head for Aerospace, Defence, and Security at GlobalData and contributed extensively to Jane’s Military Inventories and Naval Platforms teams. His research has been central to several of SIPRI’s flagship publications, including Trends in International Arms Transfers 2023, Trends in International Arms Transfers 2024, and Tensions on the Belarus Border (2023).

Through his scholarship and policy engagement, Dr George advances SIPRI’s mission of fostering peace, transparency, and global security by providing rigorous, data-driven insights into the complexities of international arms dynamics.
