The International Conference of Chief Justices of the World (ICCJW), hosted annually by City Montessori School (Lucknow), convenes global leaders in justice and governance to tackle pressing global challenges. With the upcoming United Nations General Assembly’s Summit of the Future in sight, the focus of this year’s conference is on rethinking and reforming global governance for a better future.
Evolution of Global Governance
In the words spoken during the adoption of the UN Charter in San Francisco, the vision was clear: global governance must evolve to meet the changing needs of humanity. As crises like international conflicts and climate change intensify, there’s an urgent call to redefine our international order to safeguard our planet and its inhabitants.
To able an enriching discussion on what a governance for the future could look like we would like to explore some sub themes inspired by the UN Pact for Future Zero Draft:
- Addressing the evolving needs of global governance structures.
- Strengthening mechanisms to foster peace and ensure global security.
- Exploring financial strategies to support sustainable development goals.
- Harnessing advancements in technology and fostering digital cooperation.
- Empowering younger generations to contribute to shaping governance for the world.
Background and Purpose
Founded by Dr. Jagdish Gandhi, the ICCJW has been a platform for over 24 years, uniting Chief Justices, judges, and heads of states from 141 countries. Inspired by India’s constitutional principles and driven by a vision for global peace and unity, this conference advocates for meaningful reforms within the UN to ensure a just and honorable international order.
Conclusion
As we move towards Agenda 2030, the 25th ICCJW is poised to influence discussions on UN reform. By addressing these critical sub-themes, the conference aims to lay the groundwork for a governance framework that promotes unity, peace, justice, and democracy on a global scale.
