Honourable Ms Justice Mmako Mpelegang Cynthia Abram serves as Attorney General of the Republic of Botswana, appointed on 1 June 2023. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Botswana and a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade from the University of Stellenbosch, bringing specialised expertise in international commercial law. Prior to her appointment, she served as Deputy Attorney General in the International and Commercial Services Division, advising the government on bilateral and multilateral trade agreements and commercial law matters. As Attorney General, she has emphasised modernising Botswana’s justice system through initiatives including e-filing, law revision, and strengthening child-friendly justice mechanisms. She has advocated strongly for aligning legislative reforms with evolving national priorities including human trafficking prevention, disability rights protection, and electoral integrity enhancement. Her leadership combines international trade expertise with commitment to comprehensive legal modernisation and social justice, positioning Botswana’s legal framework for contemporary challenges.
