At City Montessori School, Rajendra Nagar, Campus I, we place environmental sustainability at the core of our mission. Our initiatives aim to foster awareness among students about the importance of nature conservation, inspiring them to actively contribute to protecting the environment. A shining example of this commitment is Van Mahotsav, a week-long celebration that promotes tree plantation and environmental awareness.
In 2024, we celebrated Van Mahotsav from 1st July to 7th July, uniting the school community through activities designed to instill eco-consciousness in students.
Van Mahotsav 2024: A Nature-Centric Celebration
Van Mahotsav, or Tree Plantation Week, encourages tree planting and highlights the importance of forests in sustaining life. At our school, this event underscores the significant role students play in nurturing and preserving the environment. This year’s theme, environmental sustainability, emphasized tree plantation.
Dr. Heera Lal, IAS, the Special Secretary of Irrigation and Water Resources for the Uttar Pradesh Government, inaugurated the event. Dr. Lal, known for his book Dynamic D.M. and his efforts to revitalize the ‘Go for Gomti’ project, brought invaluable insights.
In his speech, Dr. Lal passionately explained how trees combat climate change, support biodiversity, and maintain ecological balance. His inspiring message motivated students to adopt eco-friendly practices and take proactive steps to safeguard the environment.
A Campus Transformed by Greenery
For Van Mahotsav 2024, our campus blossomed with greenery. Students brought potted plants to decorate their classrooms, making them vibrant and fostering a sense of responsibility for nature.
The school hall turned into an art gallery featuring nature-inspired crafts. Students contributed posters, sculptures, and decorations, showcasing their understanding of environmental challenges. These creations served as powerful reminders of humanity’s role in protecting the planet.
Sustainability Through Active Engagement
Active participation defined this year’s Van Mahotsav. Students enthusiastically planted saplings across the campus, connecting with nature while contributing to a greener future.
Educational sessions and interactive discussions encouraged students to adopt sustainable habits. Topics included waste reduction, water conservation, and wildlife protection, helping students understand how small, consistent actions lead to significant environmental benefits.
Gomti River Cleaning Drive: Taking Conservation Further
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we also participated in the Gomti River Cleaning Drive, emphasizing the need to protect water bodies.
Students and teachers visited the Gomti River, equipped with banners advocating for clean rivers. Together, they collected waste along the riverbanks, witnessing the tangible effects of pollution and learning the value of collective action. This experience reinforced their commitment to safeguarding natural ecosystems.
Inspiring Lasting Environmental Responsibility
Van Mahotsav 2024 and the Gomti River Cleaning Drive left a deep impression on our students. These initiatives not only educated them about the importance of trees and clean water but also empowered them to take meaningful action in their communities.
At City Montessori School, Rajendra Nagar, Campus I, we integrate environmental education into every aspect of learning. By fostering environmentally conscious individuals, we aim to create a future defined by sustainability and care for our planet.
