Theme & Event Summary: Reimagining Classic Literary Scenes with Contemporary Relevance
The Canvas Painting Competition connects literature and visual arts, inspiring participants to transform literary works into vivid visual narratives.
Objective
Artists are encouraged to depict characters, scenes, and symbols from classic and contemporary literature, particularly those reflecting environmental themes, translating literary imagery and metaphors into compelling artwork.
Competition Norms
- Each team will be represented by two participants from the Junior Category.
- Participants must work on canvas boards or stretched canvases measuring 30 × 36 inches.
- Participants are strictly prohibited from accessing any layout (blueprint) or reference visuals during the event.
- Participants will have a designated four-hour time slot to complete their artwork, from initial sketching to final presentation. All painting must be completed within the official competition venue using easels and the allotted workspace. No pre-painted elements or advance preparation beyond mental planning is permitted.
- All traditional painting mediums are permitted, including acrylic, oil paints, watercolours, gouache, and mixed media techniques. Digital art and printed elements are strictly prohibited.
- Teams are responsible for arranging their own materials for the competition. The organisers will not provide canvases or any art-related materials at the venue.
- Each completed artwork must be accompanied by a detailed artist statement (200–250 words) explaining the connection between the visual interpretation and the chosen literary source.
