Theme & Event Summary: An Adapted Version of a Literary Classic – Retold with a Modern Voice or New Perspective
Objective
This competition encourages participants to creatively reinterpret literary classics within modern contexts, while developing skills in dialogue delivery, characterisation, and dramatic performance. It also fosters critical thinking, originality, and deeper insight into the enduring relevance of literature.
Recorded music, if used, must remain in the background and should not drive movement or choreography.
Competition Norms
- This is a group event designed for Senior Category participants.
- Each performance must be a minimum of six minutes and must not exceed eight minutes.
- Each team must consist of a minimum of five and a maximum of seven participants.
- The performance must be an adaptation of a recognised literary classic (novel, play, short story, or poem).
- The adaptation should present a modern voice, an alternative ending, or a new perspective, while retaining the core essence of the original work.
- Dance, choreography, mime sequences, or movement-based performances are not permitted. The focus must remain on dialogue, acting, and dramatic storytelling.
- The script must be an original adaptation created by the participants and must not be copied from any existing stage or screen productions.
- The performance must be presented in English.
- The use of minimal props and background elements is permitted to support the performance; however, they must not overshadow the acting or dialogue.
- Content that is offensive, political, or otherwise inappropriate is strongly discouraged.
