CMS alumni on ladder of success

Rana Shivam Singh
Alumnus of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus I
Major in the Indian Army

An exemplary officer of the Indian Army, Major Shivam Singh Rana is an alumnus of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus I. He has proved his skills and valour in many military operations and is a hero in the eyes of the junior students.

Major Rana joined CMS in 1991, in the Gomti Nagar Campus I. He was good both in academics as well as in sports and represented the school at the state level Subroto Cup Championship in 1997. From 2001 to 2007, he held several records and achievements in his name in various games and sports like basketball, football, volleyball, athletics (100m, 110m hurdle, high jump, long jump and shotput). After his selection in the armed forces, he continued with his winning spree in sports and was awarded for best rifle shooting by Indian Army. In 2010, he underwent commando course and successfully completed it. Between 2010- 2017, he participated in many successful operations.

Recounting his school days at CMS, Major Rana says that “CMS has taught me to have a broader prospect in life, analyze the challenges from different tangents and last but not the least, the confidence generated in me by the teachers, is playing a major role in my life and will be my strength throughout my life.” With a special note of gratitude for his class teacher in 1994, Mrs Anju Berry, he says that it was she who helped him to develop self-confidence and speak confidently in the school assembly. “This confidence is still one of my greatest strengths which is taking me ahead in life.”

His advice to the younger crop of students is, “Be confident, nothing is wrong till the time you are right. Be ruthless in achieving your aim. Always aim for the next mile. Be brave to handle the situation. Moments come and go, live each moment respectfully. Respect your teachers, parents and elders. Always come with a solution and not with the problem. Have faith in God.”
