Event Overview<\/h4>\n

Category: Group D – Confabulors (Debate)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This debate focuses on the role of technology in modern mathematics. Participants will explore whether technological advancements have diminished the importance of foundational math skills or expanded opportunities for problem-solving and innovation.<\/p>\n

Event Format<\/h4>\n
    \n
  • Selection Round<\/strong>:\n
      \n
    • Duration: 3 minutes<\/li>\n
    • Participants must present their stance on the topic (either for or against). This will be determined after the online registration of their school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Final Round<\/strong>:\n
        \n
      • Duration: 2\u00bd minutes (1\u00bd minutes for the speech and 1 minute for refutation)<\/li>\n
      • This round will be extempore. Participants will receive their topic 45 minutes prior to the final round and must argue their point in the given time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Rules & Guidelines<\/h4>\n
          \n
        1. The event consists of two rounds: a Selection Round<\/strong> and a Final Round<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        2. Teams will be notified whether they should argue for<\/strong> or against<\/strong> the topic in the Selection Round post-registration.<\/li>\n
        3. Only one speaker per team<\/strong> will represent their school.<\/li>\n
        4. Participants must speak for 3 minutes<\/strong> during the Selection Round, summarizing their arguments within the time limit.<\/li>\n
        5. 15 participants<\/strong> will move to the Final Round, where the topic will be extempore.<\/li>\n
        6. In the Final Round, participants will have 1\u00bd minutes<\/strong> to present their speech, followed by 1 minute<\/strong> for refutation.<\/li>\n
        7. The decision of the organizers will be final.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Judging Criteria<\/h4>\n

          Participants will be judged in both rounds on the following basis:<\/p>\n

          • Content<\/strong> \u2013 15 points<\/li>\n
          • Expression<\/strong> \u2013 10 points<\/li>\n
          • Diction & Articulation<\/strong> \u2013 10 points<\/li>\n
          • Refutation<\/strong> \u2013 10 points<\/li>\n
          • Time Management<\/strong> \u2013 5 points<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Total<\/strong>: 50 points<\/p>\n
