Event Duration: 2 hours
About Mathdoku: Mathdoku is a fun mathematics and logic game similar to Sudoku.
Objective: The numbers you are allowed to use in a Mathdoku puzzle depend on the size of the grid, just like Sudoku. For example:
- In a 4×4 grid, use numbers 1 to 4.
- In a 5×5 grid, use numbers 1 to 5.
The objective of a Mathdoku puzzle is to fill each row and column with exactly one of the possible entries. You are not allowed to repeat any entry in the same row or column. Each inner shape (marked by the boundaries) has an associated number and an operation. The result of applying the operation to the digits within that shape must equal the associated number. An inner shape may have repetition of numbers, as long as each row and column has unique numbers.
How to Play Mathdoku:
- The competition will be conducted in two rounds: selection and finals.
- Each participant will be provided with a computer system and a link to the puzzle at the start of the competition.
- The page with the puzzle will have an inbuilt timer to record the time each participant takes to complete the puzzle. A warning buzzer will be given 1 minute before the end of time, followed by a final buzzer at the end to complete the puzzle. The puzzle will auto-submit once the timer hits 0.
Important Notes:
- Participants must enter their unique code at the end of the puzzle after either they submit it, or the puzzle auto-submits. If participants fail to enter their unique code, we will not be able to score the puzzle.
- The participant can solve the given puzzle either in pen mode or pencil mode. Pen mode can be used when you are sure about the entry in a box. Pencil mode can be used to track the multiple options that are possible for a box. Pencil mode entries are shown in small size. In pencil mode, pressing a key toggles the entry as an option for the current box. You can toggle between pen and pencil modes by clicking on the respective option in the menu bar or by pressing the space bar.
- Only pen mode entries will be considered for final submission and scoring.
- No participant will be allowed to carry any electronic devices or smartwatches inside the computer lab.
- Changing or switching of tabs is not allowed while the participants are solving the puzzle.
- Close monitoring of the participants will be done. Usage of any unfair means will lead to disqualification of the team on the spot.
- Sample puzzles will be sent to registered teams through mail for reference and practice.
Criteria for Judgement:
- Number of correct cells
- Bonus Points
- Time Taken
