The same report estimates that <strong>closing the gender digital divide could contribute up to USD 1.5 trillion to global GDP by the end of the decade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The economic argument is compelling. The human argument is even stronger.<\/p>\n<p>After spending much of my professional life as an academic development economist, I have come to appreciate that many of society&#8217;s most persistent challenges do not begin in parliaments, boardrooms or public debates. They begin much earlier. Gender equality is one such challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Long before young people encounter public policy or workplace realities, they develop beliefs about fairness, opportunity and respect. They observe who is encouraged to lead, whose opinions carry influence and what society expects from women and men. These perceptions often shape attitudes that remain well into adulthood. This is why gender equality belongs in classrooms as much as it does in institutions and governments. As one enduring principle of education reminds us: <em>&#8220;Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures.&#8221;<\/em> Every child enters school with potential. Education helps ensure that opportunity is not limited by gender, background or circumstance.<\/p>\n<p>This conviction underpins the <strong>11th International Interfaith Conference 2026<\/strong>, a flagship event of <strong>City Montessori School<\/strong>, being organised by CMS Rajajipuram Campus II from 24\u201326 July 2026 under the theme <em>&#8220;Reimagining Our World Together: Placing Gender Equality at the Heart of Humanity&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The conference brings together faith leaders, educators, jurists, policymakers, scholars and students to explore how shared values can contribute to more inclusive and equitable societies. Among the distinguished participants <em>are Hon&#8217;ble Justice Dr Dr (h.c.) Adel Omar Sherif<\/em>, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt; <em>Dr David Rizley<\/em> of the Mormon Church, USA; and <em>Maharshi Bhrigu\u00a0Peethadhishwar\u00a0Mahamandaleshwar<\/em> Shri Guruji Goswami\u00a0<em>Sushil\u00a0Giri\u00a0Ji Maharaj\u00a0<\/em>(National Convenor Bharatiya Sarva Dharma Sansad), and others. Their presence brings an important perspective on justice, human dignity and equality.<\/p>\n<p>For more than six decades, <strong>City Montessori School<\/strong> has viewed education as preparation not only for academic success but also for good citizenship. Our revered CMS Founder, Late Dr Jagdish Gandhi, often reminded us that &#8220;<em>When all mankind shall receive the same opportunity of education and the equality of men and women be realised, the foundations of war will be utterly destroyed.&#8221;<\/em> In many respects, the challenges facing humanity today make that principle more relevant than ever. This philosophy is reflected in the CMS framework of the 6Cs: Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Critical Thinking.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>International Interfaith Conference<\/strong> translates these principles into practice. Students engage with diverse perspectives, examine complex issues and learn how to disagree respectfully. Interfaith education, in this sense, extends far beyond learning about religions. It develops empathy, intellectual openness and the capacity to engage constructively across differences.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s focus on <strong>gender equality education<\/strong> reflects a simple reality: peaceful and prosperous societies depend upon dignity, participation and opportunity for all. What distinguishes the conference is the role assigned to students. They are not passive listeners. Through discussions, presentations and collaborative initiatives, they are encouraged to think critically, question assumptions and contribute ideas. In doing so, they develop many of the qualities associated with <strong>global citizenship education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When education nurtures character, empathy and a sense of shared humanity, equality moves closer to becoming a lived reality rather than a distant aspiration. That, ultimately, is the purpose of education.<\/p>\n<p>The future of <strong>gender equality<\/strong>, <strong>interfaith harmony<\/strong> and peaceful societies will not be shaped solely by governments, businesses or international organisations. It will also be shaped by the values young people carry into adulthood. When schools cultivate character, responsibility and a sense of shared humanity, they help create the conditions in which equality becomes a lived reality rather than a policy aspiration. That, ultimately, is the purpose of true education.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<a
