He holds a postgraduate degree in ancient history and has also studied Sanskrit literature and political science. Throughout his distinguished career in the Income Tax Department, spanning 35 years, he served in various capacities across Kanpur, Agra, Mumbai, Surat, Delhi, and Lucknow, eventually retiring as the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax from Bareilly. Mr Kumar has handled and resolved several complex and high-profile revenue cases. Notably, he was involved in cracking the Harshad Mehta Securities Scam, through which he successfully recovered revenue exceeding two thousand crore rupees. He also dealt with the Commodity Exchange Scam cases, involving several thousand crores, and contributed significantly to tax guidance materials for officers dealing with the film industry.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kumar has been deeply engaged in social service. In 2013, while posted as Commissioner of Income Tax in Surat, he underwent a kidney transplant. Having personally endured the pain and suffering of such a medical ordeal, he felt a strong desire to ease the path for others facing similar challenges. In 2014, he established the NGO\u00a0<em>Donate Life<\/em>\u00a0in Surat, where he continues to serve as the vice-president. This initiative has facilitated cadaver organ donations, giving a new lease of life to more than 1,500 individuals in Gujarat. Inspired by the success of this work, he founded a new NGO in Lucknow, &#8216;<em>Aalamban Associates Charitable Trust&#8217;,\u00a0<\/em>to facilitate organ donation efforts in Uttar Pradesh and address the healthcare needs of adolescent girls. This initiative is actively managed by the Trust\u2019s Secretary, Dr Sujata Deo, Professor of Gynaecology &amp; Obstetrics at KGMU, Lucknow. Through this platform, awareness is being spread across society to encourage organ donation and save lives.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kumar is also involved in numerous other social welfare activities aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and marginalised. He lives by the guiding words of Mahatma Gandhi:\u00a0<em>\u201cThe best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>A keen reader with a deep knowledge of Indian history and culture, Mr Kumar enjoys capturing the many moods of life through photography.
