Globally, children and adolescents now spend an average of over seven hours per day engaging with screen-based media, according to international health and media research. Visual content is no longer peripheral to learning—it is central to how young people receive, process and interpret information. The critical question, therefore, is not whether children will consume media, but whether they will be equipped to understand it thoughtfully.
Cinema, when curated with intention, is a powerful educational medium. It shapes perception, deepens empathy and exposes young minds to experiences beyond their immediate geography or circumstance. Used responsibly, it becomes a bridge between knowledge and understanding.
The 15th CMS Lucknow International Children’s Film Festival (ICFF) 2026 reflects City Montessori School’s sustained commitment to integrating meaningful cinema within the framework of value-based education. At CMS, we believe academic excellence must be strengthened by moral reasoning, global awareness and critical thinking. CMS Lucknow ICFF is a practical expression of that philosophy.
This year’s festival presents a carefully curated selection of feature films, short films and animations from across continents. The continued international participation of filmmakers affirms the credibility and stature the festival has established over time. Each film is evaluated for artistic integrity, thematic relevance and its capacity to stimulate reflection among young audiences.
In an era of algorithm-driven content and rapid digital exposure, visual literacy is indispensable. Students must learn not only to watch but also to question, interpret and contextualise what they see. CMS Lucknow ICFF provides a structured learning environment in which global narratives become catalysts for discussion on identity, resilience, justice, diversity and shared human values.
With nearly one lakh students participating annually, the festival demonstrates both scale and trust. Its inclusive model—welcoming students from mainstream, government and special schools—reinforces our belief that access to meaningful cultural and educational experiences must be equitable.
I commend the CMS Events and Media Production Department and all collaborators whose dedication sustains the festival’s high standards while anchoring it firmly in the values of peace, unity and responsible citizenship.
As we prepare for CMS Lucknow ICFF 2026, I encourage students to engage actively and reflectively and educators and parents to facilitate dialogue that extends beyond the screen. When cinema is approached critically and constructively, it becomes not merely a viewing experience but a formative one.
May this edition of CMS Lucknow ICFF, from 6th to 12th April, 2026, strengthen our shared commitment to education that develops discernment alongside knowledge and compassion alongside competence.
