CMS Environment Project - Report 2017-18

In its drive to enhance the sense of moral purpose of its students in protecting the environment and sustaining its natural resources, CMS takes multiple approaches to involve young minds in ecological projects in the course of their study. There are Eco clubs established in all campuses of CMS, environment coordinators are appointed, there is a dedicated Office of Youth Empowerment and Capacity Building that accompanies the environment coordinators and organizes periodic training, as well as monthly consultation and reflection in order to facilitate the learning and planning.

CMS campuses collaborate with the Centre for Environment Education, NEDA and Prithvi Foundation among others for engaging students in projects on water, biodiversity, tree plantations, organic farming, composting,  saving electricity, etc. Eco clubs engage in environment projects focused on raising awareness, conducting surveys and reporting on environmental issues such as air pollution, water pollution, biodiversity, protection of flora and fauna, energy audit and conservation. The students are in the forefront of cleanliness drives such as Swachch Bharat Abhiyan and serve as young reporters for the environment. Special Assembly sessions on environmental issues are organized in CMS campuses and environmental soft boards carry messages on this important aspect of one’s moral purpose of sustaining natural resources and protecting it. In addition CMS hosts biannually the International Environment Olympiad engaging students from overseas and within India in exploration of innovative ideas to protect the environment. It has also set an example by installing solar panels and utilizing solar energy in some of its campuses.

CMS has won prestigious awards including the Wipro Earthian Award, the Paryavaran Mitra Puraskar awards, Paryavaran Dronacharya awards, the Vanyajeev Dronachrya Award, the Paryavaran Ratan Rajat Padakas well as the prestigious  National Science Film Festival award for a film on Sparrows. It believes that environmental protection is part and parcel of its emphasis on character and civic education.
